The Creator

I have always had a love for colour and design. In recent years this has expressed itself predominantly through creating and hand dyeing textiles. This is a photo of me in my studio. I am wearing a large nuno felted silk and wool cape/jacket. This work has since been adopted out (ie sold).

Currently, I am creating a variety of wearable pieces in various styles and fabrics. In particular, I am working on a range of Nuno or full felted pieces to wear and/or display. I have also created some original devoreed velvet scarves as well as a range of silk, hand dyed dresses.

While I have been selling my work privately for some years, I have recently broadened the opportunity for others to enjoy the affordable luxury of hand dyed silk, velvet, wool and cotton in a unique creation. I now sell through galleries as well as directly from my studio. I am also involved in a few exhibitions each year both in the studio and elsewhere.

As a firm believer in ongoing education and the stimulus of working with others, in addition to years of felting and dyeing training, I have completed studies in Colour and Design and Visual Arts and will continue to undertake further artistic training along with my own experimentation.

Added to this is my more recent venture into teaching others the joys of creating and experimenting with your own artworks and wearables – both for the body and the home. You can view a list of current workshops which are held in my newly expanded studio in Lane Cove, Australia. It is wonderful to work with others and help them find their own sense of colour and creativity – as well as the joy of working with other like minded people!

The Creations

Colour is a key element of each creation and I enjoy exploring a range of colour combinations and styles.

In addition to the wonderful, vibrant colours silk is renown for and the luxurious sheen of velvet, because we vary in our colour preferences, I also like to create soft, muted pieces and quite earthy colour combinations.

In terms of styles, of particular interest is making unique Nuno felted creations where I develop my own style of fabric that I then hand dye.

I also like to explore the interesting patterns created by Shibori techniques in addition to painting silk direct.

As each piece is made individually, no two creations are the same.
